What Happens If You Get 4 Wrong?
If you make 4 or more mistakes, you fail. Your result appears on screen immediately. You will not see which specific questions you got wrong — only your total error count. You can retake the exam after a waiting period of 2 to 4 weeks.
How Long Do You Have for Each Question?
With 30 minutes for 30 questions, you have exactly 1 minute per question. In practice, most questions take 20 to 40 seconds. This gives you a buffer of 10 to 15 minutes to review answers. The most common cause of failure is rushing, not running out of time.
Is There Negative Marking?
No. Each wrong answer counts as one mistake, whether you guessed randomly or misread the question. There is no penalty beyond the simple mistake count. Unanswered questions also count as mistakes, so it is always better to answer every question.
What Types of Questions Appear?
Questions fall into three main types: situational questions with images showing driving scenarios, sign recognition questions testing your knowledge of road signs, and rule-based questions about speed limits, alcohol limits, priority rules, and vehicle safety. About one-third of questions include an image.
How Many Times Can You Retake the DGT Test?
There is no limit. Each retake requires paying the Tasa 4.2 fee (approximately €95). Through a driving school, rebooking typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. As a free candidate, wait times vary by province. The questions on each attempt are different.
How to Prepare Effectively
The candidates who pass on their first attempt typically practise for 3 weeks, doing daily timed tests of 30 questions. Focus on your weak areas rather than reviewing what you already know. DGT Pass uses adaptive learning to identify the questions you struggle with and drills them until you master each one.
